My wife, Susan, and I spent the first year of our marriage serving with ACMNP on St. John, USVI, in 1973-1974. I had completed one year of seminary and she was fresh out of college. We both agree it was one of the most impactful, stretching years of our lives!
We had never led worship services, prepared sermons, invited strangers in campgrounds to church, or any of the other activities associated with ministry before.
So, everything was a new experience. God met our immediate need for Christian friends and fellowship by introducing us to a young Moravian couple who were serving two churches there. We met each week for prayer and Bible study, and I preached in one of his churches on Easter!
God also led us to start an adult Bible study on Wednesday evening at the Anglican church in Cruz Bay, another skill-building experience that has served us well for the past 45 years. Our year with ACMNP helped cement our marriage and gave us strong roots in the faith, and we are very grateful!
